Ok, who's seen it and who's going to see it?
deb, Elizabeth and I went last night. WOW! It was awesome! Very well done, it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time!
Even if you're not a Star Trek fan, this is a great Sci-Fi Action movie, well worth the time!

A must see for the Krays!!
Daveypoo, how was Chekov? to me, he looks the least like the original character, but wondered how he comes across in the movie? |

I agree he didn't look much like the original, but he play it well and gave some insight into the character. Personally, I thought he was too "boyish". _________________ When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.

We saw it this past weekend and thought it was very good.... 4 Stars!
If you aren't a fan of Star Trek, I think you would still enjoy this movie. It was familure enough, but not so much that it alienates non-Star Trek fans. I can see this series going on for a while! _________________ Up or Down North, South, East, or West An Adventurer's Life is Best! |

A bunch of us are going tonight to see it on IMAX. Can a Star Wars geek like me walk into a Star Trek movie without getting struck by lightning? We'll see. I'm looking forward to seeing Simon Pegg as Scotty - I just love his movies. _________________ Beth's Blog |

I caught it Saturday night. Excellent remake. The characterizations are not the quite same BUT all the core personality traits are there. The story line is solid and gives a strong reason for any "time line" differences that pop up. All the characters, even the Enterprise herself, get a chance to star and be the hero.
Some disappointments? Well, I wish we found out what happened to the dog. (Yeah yeah, see the movei to understand that one). Bones never got to say (He's dead Jim) also, minor problem, BONES is the traditional nickname of a naval surgeon, they did not have to explain how he got this nickname.
They did toast a red shirt. (You catch that one? It was subtle but they did it)
I expect to see it again. Well worth it. I actually almost cried when the Enterprise bursts out and ...(um well, I won't spoil it here).. but funny, respectful of tradition and full of action. Great remake.
Even better, more HUH? That don't make sense points to leave real fans chatting away for hours...
You can read, no real spoilers here
1) why would Starfleet give a trillion dollar starship to a graduating cadet (even one who saved the Earth) and his co-cadets when none of them have ever served as lieutenants before?
2) Why did Scotty become chief engineer when he was not assigned to the ship?
3) If Chekov was 17, when did Starfleet accept him? 13?
4) Pike was the 2nd Captian...Where was Captian April?
5) If the ship is not even finished being built, why have ship identification numbers painted on it?
But that is for the more picky fans...For the average movie goer it is simply a great movie |

Okay, I admit it: Star Trek was a great movie. I'd even go see it again, though I doubt anything could be as cool as seeing it on IMAX. I think it's a great remake of the franchise, and the casting was spot-on. Of course, I like Simon Pegg in pretty much anything, but it was also nice to see Karl Urban as Bones (I loved him in The Lord of the Rings).
Question: What was the logic behind dressing Winona Ryder up as an old lady to play Spock's mother? _________________ Beth's Blog |

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!
( no offense intended)
Seems to me the movie industry is running out of original ideas. they have settled for the well ......lets just go back in time befor they were so and so and tell the story from the beginning, examples, hulk xmen, batman, spiderman, star trek star wars Friday the 13th and i am sure I am forgetting so many more..
What a cop out in "original" ideas. Just a way to keep the franchise alive....
Just my opinion..... |

I saw Star Trek last weekend at the IMAX. The movie was great! Kraysister was with me. She doesn't even like star trek and she loved it too! We are planning on seeing it again with yet another member of the kray family
I agree with Kray and Daveypoo that chekov looked nothing like the original but I have to admit this chekov made me laugh! |

Saw it over the week end. On its own merits, it is a good movie.
On its merits of continuing the franchise... there I am not too sure.
I am not thrilled with the approach of re-writing the history just because it gives you a clean slate, but it is as reasonable an approach as the genesis device was. It did solve the problems of writing a new story with out causing every one to scream, about conflicts. Rather than address it, they simply side-stepped it. Basically a new start.
I thought the actors did a great job, and there is potential for quite good movies going forward.
so I guess if I can get over them "Rewriting the rules of time travel" as the baron said so well, this will not be bad.
I'm more concerned if this is going to go back to the true formula of the series or morph into more of the enterprise/deep space type stuff. |
