On yesterday's morning news while they were "reporting" on the Tom Sawyer Island makeover they also said that Disney might be thinking about making a movie based on the Jungle Cruise ride.
Sounds kinda silly to me...after all they really messed up with the Haunted Mansion movie didn't they?
What do you guys think?

They aren't just thinking about a Jungle Cruise movie, but it is moving on the fast-track to get production started. It had been discussed before and died, but now it's moving quickly through the writing process. And I agree with you Kat that if they learned their lesson from the Haunted Mansion fiasco with Pirates, then the Jungle Cruise could really be something special. _________________ John

I think it will be in more of a vein like Pirates...serious but funny at the same time. Will they focus on just one boat or the whole fleet? Will there be headhunters and hippos? One can only hope.. _________________ John
Everyone is hopeful that they learned their lesson with HM, but what about Country Bears? They didn't learn their lesson there, nor with Mansion.
I think if they take the story line in a simular direction like Pirates, then it has a shot. _________________ When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.

I liked HM. Sure, it isn't the greatest movie ever made. But I enjoyed it. As for Country Bears.....It was like a "Blues Brothers", "Wayne's World", "Brady Bunch" episode, only with fur. _________________ [
This has a lot of potential provided that:
They use a STRONG story line. I personally would like to see some of the punds and scenes from the ride worked into the movie... provided they fit in with the plot and are well done. Like the dog with the key scene in POTC. I thinl the issue with HM is they were more concerned with the actors and thier images than the story... A good story would have covered both.
No one here has mentioned Mission to Mars. It was a movie that came after the attraction, but is it not considered the same as the POTC movie, or the Haunted Mansion movie? I think it was a good movie. Not a brainless action movie like Red Planet, but it had a good story line, and presented a very interesting theory as to why we exist on earth. Will they ever make a ride based on a movie, which was based on a ride? Or has Mission: Space already accomplished that? By the way, I think Mission: Space has the wrong name, and is in the wrong park. Mission to Mars in Tomorrowland would be a lot more fitting for it.
As far as the Jungle Cruise movie goes, it could end up being a very dark and suspensful movie. Has anyone ever heard the online rumor about the Jungle Cruise being turned into a thrill ride? I read it years ago, and remember something about a hippo attacking the boat, and a snake attempting to eat one of the passengers. There were also the headhunters, earthquakes, and a flooding temple. Maybe the movie, if there is one, will be more like that? Maybe they'l convert the Jungle Cruise into a thrill ride, if the movie is sucsessful.
I presonally would like to see a Jungle Cruise thrill ride. Before anyone flips out on me, think of it this way... The Jungle Cruise is a classic attraction. It's been in Disneyland since the beginning, so there would deffinatly be concern about reformating it. There was also concern about updating POTC to add Jack Sparrow, without ruining the attraction. A Jungle Cruise Thrill ride could be feasable, and leave everyone happy. For example, the Jungle Cruise runs in a linear format, like a roller coaster, or omnimover attraction (and unlike attractions like Mission: Space, and Alien Encounter). The boats for the jungle cruise actually do run along a track. Why not have two attractions in one? It should be possible. It starts with a complete renovation of the ride, updated animatronics, and all the effects for the thrill ride installed. Two fleets running on one track, with the current amount of boats still being used. Two seperate sections of the docking station, so riders don't get confused. Then the ride is programmed to alternate. The hippo which would attack the thrill ride boat, would do whatever he currently does when a classic boat comes through. Same for the headhunters, snake, and anything else that might be added. The earthquake and flood that occurs in the temple, simply wouldn't happen when the classic boat passes through. The basic idea here is that you can enter the station for the classic ride, and experience that ride the way it always has been, just with better props and animals, and possibly witnessing another, different looking boat getting into some trouble. Or, you can enter the station for the thrill ride, and experience an all new attraction where what you expected quickly turns into a fight for survival. I can only think of one problem. Either half of the attraction could become so popular, and the fleet being split in half, it would not be a people eater, thus leaving Space Mountain style lines running through Adventureland.
