Major makeovers coming to Disney hotels
The oldest Disney hotel is about to undergo a major renovation, while a newer Disney hotel is about to finish a big expansion, Disney officials have announced.
A head-to-toe makeover of the Disneyland Hotel, which opened in 1955, is set to begin Aug. 24. The remodeling will begin in the Dreams Tower, which is the middle building of the iconic hotel.
Workers are expected to start with the top floors and work their way down, eventually reaching all 970 rooms in the hotel through 2012, said John McClintock, a spokesman for the Disneyland Resort.
Nearby, the expansion of the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa is nearly complete. On Sept. 23, the hotel is set to open up about 200 new rooms and 50 villas to occupants. The villas are the first West Coast dwellings in the Disney Vacation Club, the company’s time-share program. Read the first story about the Grand Californian expansion HERE.
The hotel will have a total of 945 units when done.
Disney does not release numbers on how many people have bought into the club’s villas, said Michele Himmelberg, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman.
We’re expecting to get a sneak peek of the villas before they open to the public. We’ll let you know more when we get inside.
I love the Disneyland Hotel. From a pure experience standpoint, it's my favorite (the GC is my favorite based purely on location). I've always loved the layout and decor. BUT...these new rooms seem to have a little more magic and with the flat panel tv's, it will make the rooms a little less crowded.
I can hardly wait to see the changes.
Oh, and since we'll be in Disneyland, staying at the GC at the beginning of September, maybe we can get a tour of the new DVC rooms and let y'all know how they look. _________________ When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.

Unless that section is locked down like Bay Lake Tower.... if you don't have a room key for that section, you can't get into it. _________________ Up or Down North, South, East, or West An Adventurer's Life is Best!

Nah, I'm good.... besides, Disney is locking everyone out, to keep "icky regular" people away from the worshiped DVC members.... _________________ Up or Down North, South, East, or West An Adventurer's Life is Best!
