I was wondering if anyone else has been the Chef Mickey's lately and
been disappointed.

I have been there twice in the past two months and it went from
fair to bad.

The place was nice as allways but we were there to eat.

Most of the hot food wasn't that hot and was bland and under cooked.
Most of the items in the cold food/ salad area were not very fresh and
many items were frozen on the line.

Has this happened to anyone else or were we just unfortuate to
catch them on a couple of bad night?

I was thhere the first Sunday of this month...and enjoyed it very much. The overall experience was great and the food was good.

I'm used to a little more variety since my typical Character breakfast is at Storytellers (DL) which is fantastic!

Everything was hot that should be and fresh, too. Service was good...not great, but our drinks were filled and we all had plenty. The food s at te buffet were full and lines weren't very long at all.

The place was smaller than any of us expected....but we all enjoyed it--a great way to start te day--a full belly and the kida already excited in phhotos with the characters!

We were there in early January with a large group (13) and thought everything was good. The only fault I could find was that our waitress was a bit slow to get our coffee, and there weren't enough place settings, cups and glasses when we first sat down. Almost as if they weren't quite ready to seat us yet. The food was plentiful and hot with a good selection. And the characters got by to see us more than once. They had to seat us at 2 tables, but they were adjoining so that was not an issue.

The other problem we had was the Characters getting by.

My DD was waiting and waiting. After we were there about an hour and
a half we had only seen two of the five characters.
We asked our waitress several times when the character would be along
and we still waited another 30 - 40 mins. In all we were there two hours
and fifteen minuets mostly waiting for the charaters

I guess the lacking on the food side and the very long wait for the
characters made from a less than enjoyable dinner.

Bummer...sounds like an off night. Sad

All the characters passed at least once during our time there which wasn't overly long. Enough time to eat...grab some refills and prepare for our day. The kids started to get into the whole spinny napkin thing too.

Grump you are exactly right !
I just returned from WDW 2 weeks agao
and was let down by the Chef Mickey food quality as well
I ha dinner there 2 years ago and thought it was very good
I went 2 weeks ago and what you say is very true
the salad bar was not fresh some of the side dishes
like what used to be a flaverfull potato caserole is now
a pan full of green peas and like you said they were cold and under cooked
I wonder if this is a result of Disney trying to get there moneys worth
for the people on the dinning plan

or maybe this is part of the healthyer WDW diet plan
if it is it worked because I couldnt find enough decent stuff to eat
I could go on and on on this topic thanks for bringing this problem up!!!

chef mickey's has always kinda scared me...too many people, too much noise, too much 'character breakfast.' Mad

but concourse steakhouse right next door has always been nice and mellow! Very Happy

i think my favorite character breakfast experience was with the Poos at AK's Breakfastosaurus, and my favorite lunch/dinner experience was goofy's kitchen at the Disandhote. and Moosey is right, Storyteller's has great buffets, even though its character meals are often hecka crowded and anxiety-inducing. Sad

I Think Dixielandings may have hit on something.

The last two or three times that my visits to Chef mickey's were less
than up to Disney standards I was having dinner there each time.
I still have not had a bad meal there for Breakfast.

Prehaps it is a problem with the dinner Chef or evening managers??

I wuld agree it was a "busy" morning....between the bright decor, small space, dancing characters (and children)....I was VERY happy wour table was tucked in a corner. That aspect reminded me much of Goofy's Kitchen (which I really dislike on many levels Wink )

I'd like to try some of the other venues....since DLR is my home resort, there are only two yet to try there and so far Storytells is the one I like best....we've always been in a booth so it never seems to crowded...and I thikn our off season trip gives us the advatage of not having a crowd anywhere....

I've only done character dinner once--at Goofy's Kitchen ....the first in a string of GK fiascos Wink

Do you think you'll be looking for Character fare elsewhere on the next trip? There are plenty of options!
