New Baby Elephant Born at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Disney's Animal Programs team has welcomed a 327-pound baby elephant to Disneyâ€™s Animal Kingdom. The male African elephant calf arrived at 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, to join its 26-year-old mother Moyo after 21 months (gestation) in the womb. A name has not yet been chosen for the new baby.

Both the baby and his mother are doing well, according to veterinarians and elephant managers.

The new calf is the fourth baby elephant born at Disneyâ€™s Animal Kingdom -- Tufani, (who is Moyoâ€™s first calf in 2003), Kianga (2004) and Nadirah (2005), who remain on the savannah. Moyo became pregnant with this second baby through artificial insemination in September 2006

Very cool! One of the elephants here at our zoo in Atlanta is pregnant, too. It's amazing how much they weigh already when they're born!
