What gets you misty eyed about old Disney?

A couple of weeks ago I was missing Horizons pretty bad, so that got me thinking what do you miss about WDW? I'll start:

If You Had Wings
Horizons
World of Motion
Tapestry of Nations
Journey into Imagination (The original)

any thoughts?

I did not grow up on the east coast so I'm going to add my Disneyland tears to the post.

Peoplemover
The snoring Bear on your way into Critter Country
The burning cabin

These are things I remember and loved to go on as a kid. I remeber my Dad alwys loved to talk about the bear sleeping.

While I agree whole heartedly with Horizons and Imagination, I would add Kitchen Kabaret and SMRT-1 to the EPCOT miss list.

However, nothing more sad to me then the late great Mr. Toad.

Also, there is a great post about Toad on the Passport to Dreams Old & New site that went up today.

Definitely riding the original Journey into Imagination with my little brother, I was 6 and he was 4. The ride wasn't that crowded and we could go on it again and again and my little brother would always get so excited when Figment would first come out. Ahhh the good old days. That and the Peter Pan quote during Wishes always makes me mist up and gives me goose bumps every time I watch the show.

Thinking of the old entrance and parking lot at Disneyland. Getting off I-5 and driving down Harbor, then seeing the large (original) DL sign. Then walking across the vast parking lot with the main gate in sight in the distance. Sigh . . . . . .

20,000 Leagues was the first ride I ever rode "all by myself" as a teenager. I loved the ride, and the movie. Even after it closed, the pool sat there for so many years, taunting me, to the point that I refused to even walk over and check out Ariels Grotto that occupied an area of it.

I also miss the Skyway. I don't enjoy heights, but I always managed to work up the guts to do it.

The PeopleMover and the Subs! I remember my first trip to DL I was so excited to go on a SUbmarine Voyage. But now, I'm going back to DL to relive good memories on the NEW Subs!

Add another vote for Journey Into Imagination. And Toad. I miss the original Universe of Energy a lot, and the old Walter Cronkite version of Spaceship Earth. I think he had one of the best lines in any Disney ride: "Glorious Rome falls victim to the flames of excess." They don't write 'em like that anymore!

How manyof you rode the Flying Saucers?

I miss the entire "World on the Move" of Disneyland Tomorrowland's 1967 makeover. TL 98 sux.

There are so many things that have come and gone that I've just learned to accept it. One of the wierdest things is that I had a great time going with my grandmother up and down the Swiss Family Treehouse in DL. I had such a good time that I feel her presense there even when I go up into what is now Tarzan's Treehouse. I don't believe in ghosts or such, but boy, can I ever sense my grandmother when I'm up in that concrete tree! Wierd.

I really wish they had left the Swiss Family Treehouse as it was. I liked it much better than Tarzan's Treehouse - probably for the memories - I remember going up with my mommy when I was maybe 4. Sigh . . . . . .

I always get misty eyed when they are handing me my credit card back at the admission ticket sales window.... Which is in correct contradiction as I'm definitely feeling lighter at the same time. Crying or Very sad

Hi again. This is something I haven't told alot of people but one thing that almost literally made me cry the last time I was DL was something that almost seems inconsequential to alot of other. While coming out of the Main Street Opera House for the 50th Annivesary show, (I can't even remember the name right now), I noticed something missing that I thought would always be there. It was on the wall in the post-show area: the Fifth Freedom Mural which Walt had commisioned when the park opened. It had stood there for almost fifty years itself just as a reminder thar we all have the freedom to dream and create whenever we can. What really tore me up however wasn't just the removal of the mural itself, but what they replaced it with. The entire wall literall became a billboard for the then upcoming Monsters, Inc. ride at DCA! It was after that small but binding incident that I vowed to not return to the park until they got their act together and starting showing a little more respect. Here's hoping that with Mr. Tony Baxter back in charge of the place that that respect is forthcoming. Whew! Well, until later, paece.
