Well, a young boy is the main character, but no immediate family.

And crap. Typo, big typo in previous comment. This is not an animated movie.

There is overlap of a couple of characters between the live action & animated movies.

Hmmm. Don’t think I’ve ever seen it, but I’m remembering a live action movie (might have been a Disney Channel thing) called “Minutemen”. Could that be it?

I need to stop doing clues late at night.

To clarify - There is an animated movie that has some overlapping characters with this movie. But they are not the same movie - different title & story for each of them.

Both were theatrical releases (approx 30yrs apart) well before Disney+ was even a hazy concept. Animated movie came 1st.

Magic & a magic man is involved to a certain extent in both movies as well.

Maybe "Kid in King Arthur's Court"? Certainly uses some the same characters as Sword and the Stone.

Aw, heck, that's what makes the game fun!

1st Character: "How about I beat your butt right now?"
2nd Character: "How about I draw a line down the middle of your head so it looks like a
butt?"

No. It was a live action movie, with a sport theme.

Not the Mighty Ducks, which was definitely a Disney movie. But you're on the right track thinking cold sports.
