Apparently there was a test today at the Haunted Mansion for the interactive queue initiative. Did any UABers make it to HM today?

Next-Gen queue testing at the Haunted Mansion
Apr 28, 2010

The Haunted Mansion is today conducting a test of an in-queue game as part of the "Next-Gen" initiative.

The game consists of first figuring out that you need to interact with a display, and then listening to what is said. As you place your head near to each figure, the character whispers some information. The end result is that you figure out where the family fortune is hidden. (The answer is in an urn on the lawn infront of the Mansion).

The "Next-Gen" program is part of developing more interactive queues that will become a big part of the new Fantasyland expansion.

It doesn't appear that the plans are to actually integrate this into the Mansion on a permanent basis, but that this is to test of how it can be done in a real attraction setting. Members of WDI were on hand asking guests questions about the experience.

I wasn't there, but I wonder if something like this is what's coming to RnRC in May. Are we going to listen to the posters sing?

Is it me, or do interactive queues with games and such make the line go slower? I mean if your busy playing a game and your not paying attention I am gonna fly right past you in line.... Twisted Evil I mean lines are bad enough at times, we don't need anything else thats gonna "slow them down more". Or am I off my rocker?

I completely agree with you. There is no chance that i will be waiting in line so that someone can play a game. I can picture the inevitable discussions that will occur when a person finally realizes their mistake and then tries to squeeze their way to their former spot in line.

Depends on the queue... for fast moving queues, like HM, yeah I can see games slowing them down. But for slower queues, like Soaring I can see the games being a necessary distraction and not making a big difference on the overall "speed" of the queue...

Just depends on when and where?

"Discussions." Yeah, I like that term Laughing I'm of course the one to "discuss" their error in not paying attention to the queue line moving ahead of them. Sorry, Charlie. Out of luck. I needs my Haunted Mansion! Razz

As long as no one is skipping, it doesn't matter if anyone's playing games or not. The ride loads just as fast, there's just more flow then stop than without the game. If standing there is really killing you, play along!

Disney's been testing out interactive ideas for queues as part of their R and D area over in Glendlale. I had the opportunity to visit R and D a few years back when I worked for Feature animation, and some of the stuff was pretty nifty.
